What counts as an HVAC emergency?

Not every problem needs a visit tonight, but some shouldn’t wait. Call us right away if:

What to do while you wait

These simple steps are safe for any homeowner, and they sometimes fix the problem before we even get there:

1. Check the thermostat. Make sure it’s set to Heat or Cool, the setting is above or below room temperature, and the screen isn’t blank. Replace the batteries if it uses them.
2. Check the filter. A badly clogged filter can make a furnace overheat and shut off, or make an AC coil freeze. If it’s dirty, replace it.
3. Check the breakers. If a breaker for the furnace, air handler or outdoor unit has tripped, you can reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call us. Repeated tripping points to an electrical problem.
4. Stay warm or cool safely. In winter, close blinds and doors to unused rooms. Only use space heaters made for indoor use, keep them clear of anything that can burn, and never use an oven, grill or generator to heat the house. In summer, close blinds, run ceiling fans and drink water.
